Yes, you have likely noticed that Brookhaven Chiropractic and East Memphis Chiropractic have merged at 4968 William Arnold Rd 38117.

Yes, you have likely noticed that Alan Goode, DC is no longer here. (He's with Methodist Healthcare as a Nurse Practitioner but I'll explain further later)

If you’ve ever been part of either clinic family, you know something about us already.

We don’t rush people.
We don’t talk over people.
And we don’t believe in endless visits without a plan.

This is a story about how two chiropractic practices—Brookhaven Chiropractic Center and East Memphis Chiropractic—came together under one roof… and why, for our patients, the most important things never changed.

So let me tell you how it happened.

Where It All Started

Dr. Richard Hathcock has been serving the Memphis community for over two decades. But if you ask him how it all began, he won’t start with degrees or credentials. He’ll tell you about people.

He’s a Memphis native. Grew up here. Knows the pace of this city. Knows the rhythm of it. Knows that most folks don’t want complicated—they want honest.

After finishing his undergraduate studies locally, he headed north to study at Palmer College of Chiropractic, one of the most recognized chiropractic schools in the world. While there, he was nominated as an “Outstanding Clinician”—not because he had the flashiest technique, but because he connected clinical knowledge to real people in front of him.

He learned early that being a good chiropractor isn’t about cracking backs.

It’s about:

  • Listening carefully
  • Examining thoroughly
  • Explaining clearly
  • Creating a plan that makes sense
  • And then delivering consistent, results-oriented care

When he returned to Memphis, that’s exactly what he built.

Brookhaven Chiropractic Center: A Practical, No-Nonsense Approach

Brookhaven Chiropractic Center grew from a simple philosophy:

If someone comes in hurting, figure out why.
Make a plan.
Track progress.
Help them get back to life.

That meant short-term, goal-focused care. No mystery. No vague promises. Just professional, organized treatment with a clear direction.

Over time, patients began referring friends and family. Not because we were flashy. But because people got better—and they understood what was happening along the way.

East Memphis Chiropractic: Same Values, Same Mission

Just a few blocks away, East Memphis Chiropractic was serving the same kind of patients—people dealing with:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Auto-related injuries

The tone was similar. Professional. Efficient. Results-driven.

And when two practices share the same philosophy long enough, something interesting happens.

You realize you’re stronger together.

The Turning Point

Here’s where the story shifts.

Dr. Alan Goode made a career transition and became employed full-time as a Nurse Practitioner with Methodist Hospital. It was a meaningful step for him professionally, and we’re genuinely proud of his continued service in healthcare.

But transitions create opportunities.

Instead of operating separately, it made sense to merge Brookhaven Chiropractic with East Memphis Chiropractic—bringing both patient communities together in one streamlined location at:

4968 William Arnold Rd
Memphis, TN 38117        901-767-8077

Now, if you’re thinking, “Mergers usually mean changes I don’t like,” I get it.

But here’s the truth.

For patients?

Almost nothing changed.

What Didn’t Change (And This Is the Important Part)

The name on the sign might look different.
The scheduling might be more centralized.
The operations are more streamlined.

But the care?

The care is the same.

We still believe:

  • You deserve to be seen on time.
  • You deserve to understand your diagnosis.
  • You deserve a plan with purpose.
  • You deserve measurable progress.

And if you were a patient at Brookhaven or East Memphis before the merger, you’ll recognize the same tone the moment you walk in.

Professional. Calm. Focused.

Who Is Dr. Richard Hathcock, DC, FSBT?

Now let’s talk about the “FSBT” after his name—because that matters.

Dr. Richard Hathcock, DC, FSBT holds advanced post-doctoral training as a Fellow in Spinal Biomechanics and Trauma. His studies are associated with the State University of New York at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine.

That may sound technical, so let me translate.

It means he has spent years studying:

  • How spinal injuries happen
  • How trauma affects the body
  • How to interpret advanced imaging
  • How to document injury cases correctly
  • When conservative care is appropriate
  • When referral is necessary

In other words, he doesn’t guess.

If someone walks in after a car accident, he understands crash dynamics. If imaging is involved, he knows how to interpret findings within clinical context. If something doesn’t look right, he knows when to escalate care appropriately.

That depth matters.

Because Memphis patients deserve more than surface-level treatment.

The Style of Care You’ll Experience

Let me walk you through what a typical patient experience feels like.

You come in because your back has been bothering you for three weeks.

First, you’re listened to. Not interrupted. Not rushed.

Then you’re examined thoroughly. Movement, posture, orthopedic tests—real evaluation.

Then comes the part most people appreciate most: the explanation.

We’ll tell you:

  • What we think is happening
  • Why it likely happened
  • What we’re going to do about it
  • How long it should reasonably take
  • What improvement should look like

There’s something comforting about clarity.

And that clarity has always been the backbone of both Brookhaven and East Memphis.

Injury Cases and Documentation: A Quiet Strength

One area where the merged clinic is especially strong is injury management—particularly auto injuries.

Many patients don’t realize how important documentation is until they’re in the middle of an insurance process.

Dr. Hathcock’s advanced training in spinal trauma and MRI interpretation allows him to:

  • Accurately assess injury severity
  • Determine when imaging is appropriate
  • Document findings clearly
  • Provide organized clinical reporting

But more importantly, it helps patients understand what’s going on in their own body.

Because when you understand something, it’s less intimidating.

A Clinic That Respects Your Time

We hear this a lot:

“I love that I’m not sitting in the waiting room forever.”

That’s not an accident.

Our scheduling is intentional. Our workflow is structured. We run an organized clinic because your time matters.

You have jobs. Kids. Responsibilities. Workouts you want to get back to. Golf rounds waiting. Vacations coming up.

The point of care isn’t to keep you here.

The point is to help you move forward.

The Human Side of It All

Here’s something that often gets overlooked in healthcare stories:

Trust.

Patients who came from Brookhaven had built trust there.

Patients who came from East Memphis Chiropractic had built trust there.

Merging the practices wasn’t just logistical—it was relational.

We understood that these weren’t just charts transferring from one system to another. These were families. These were long-term relationships.

That’s why continuity was non-negotiable.

Same philosophy.
Same professionalism.
Same results-oriented mindset.

Just one unified team.

Why This Merger Makes Us Better

When you combine two aligned practices, you get:

  • Streamlined operations
  • Consistent clinical standards
  • Coordinated scheduling
  • Unified communication
  • Stronger internal collaboration

And ultimately?

Better focus on patients.

Instead of dividing energy across separate administrative systems, we concentrate on what matters most—care delivery.

Our Mission, Told Simply

If I had to sum up who we are in one sentence, it would be this:

We help people feel better, understand why they feel better, and get back to living their lives.

Not hype. Not gimmicks.

Just good chiropractic care delivered professionally.

For Longtime Patients

If you’ve been with us for years—thank you.

You’ll notice the same approach. The same tone. The same organized flow.

The address may be consolidated, but the heart of the practice hasn’t shifted an inch.

For New Patients

If you’re reading this because you’re considering care for the first time, here’s what you can expect:

  • Direct answers
  • Honest recommendations
  • A structured plan
  • Clear expectations
  • Professional follow-through

We don’t overcomplicate care. And we don’t under-explain it either.

Looking Ahead

Healthcare is always evolving. People’s needs change. Communities grow.

But the foundation stays steady.

Dr. Richard Hathcock built his career on disciplined study, advanced training, and practical patient care. From his time at Palmer College to his advanced biomechanics and trauma studies, the through-line has always been the same:

Be competent.
Be clear.
Be results-focused.

The merger of Brookhaven Chiropractic Center and East Memphis Chiropractic wasn’t about expansion.

It was about alignment.

Two clinics that already believed the same things—now working as one.
